Beverly Vista School : BV elementary/middle school was built in 1924, in Romanesque Revival style. Declared unsafe after the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the wings extending from the bell tower have since awaited demolition and the building of new classrooms. The bell tower will be renovated, the auditorium will be gutted and re-built.
These were taken in March, 2006; demolition will be completed by the end of April. The proposed remodel and new main building, completed in 2002, are #41 & 56.

Update: I'm very happy to report that the original bell tower chandelier (#35 & 42), that was almost eliminated from the project, was saved, in part, by these photos and beautifully restored as you can see below (#43). The renovated auditorium and new Building "B" were dedicated on Oct. 4, 2007.

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels : What historically took centuries to construct was accomplished in three years in the building of the 11-story Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. This first Roman Catholic Cathedral to be erected in the western United States in 30 years began construction on May 1999 and was completed by the spring of 2002.

Spanish architect, Professor José Rafael Moneo has designed a dynamic, contemporary Cathedral with virtually no right angles. This geometry contributes to the Cathedral's feeling of mystery and its aura of majesty.
