It is not often in any town, let alone Beverly Hills, that two historic theaters, located within a block of each other, are leveled simultaneously. The demolition of The Canon Theatre (originally the Hitching Post) along with the Beverly Theater (Taj Mahal-inspired movie palace opened in 1925, became Fiorucci boutique and featured in the film Xanadu...last incarnation as a bank!) took place in early September, 2005. They are making way for a future half-square block hotel/condo/retail/garden/parking project.
